How To Find Your Target Market for MLM

This is a very simple process that is often overlooked by a lot of MLM distributors. Typically most networkers will go for anything they can get a hold of (i.e. they do the 3 foot rule via Facebook), and they completely lose track of who is their target market. Now while it’s great to know who you DO want in your MLM business, it’s also just as important to discover who you don’t want.

Now the cool thing is about our industry is that almost anyone can be your target market; however please don’t misconstrue this as me telling you to talk to absolutely everyone you know about your Network Marketing business. My point is as long as someone genuinely has a need or desire for your product or business, they are at least interested (of course you have to qualify them to see if they’re worth your time) and who they are/what they do shouldn’t matter too much.

Having said that, there are individuals in other industries e.g. Real Estate who have entered the Network Marketing industry and have had more success than the average 9-5 mentality networker. This is why I especially focus on talking to people in certain industries, seeing as Realtors do what we do but in a different industry! ๐Ÿ˜‰

To make this easier for you, I created a one page Word document with a list of ‘Who am I looking for’, ‘What qualities should they have’ and last but not least ‘What qualities should I avoid’. It’s easier for you to save and edit a copy of this list than for me to put the entire list on here, so go ahead andย click here to downloadย the list of your Target Market.

Note: this list is NOT exhaustive but by all means, add to that list. It is not company specific, completely generic so I would suggest you download it to your computer right away. Overall you can target whoever you want, just make sure to focus on or away from certain qualities of people (see list of Target Market for details). Also consider yourself; you will attract people who are similar to you and what you do daily. So if you picture yourself as a dead broke, desperate marketer you will attract people of like mind. Become who you want in your business!

  7. Hey Seb! Great post. You know, the MLM profession is like any other profession when we think for our target markets and potential associates. It seem that many fail to recognize that. You mention social media for prospecting. I would hope that people use social media to meet people from every area of life that share a common interest. For me, being in a pet based MLM, I am always seeking to meet people with a similar passion for pets. THEN I can start sharing my products and opportunity with them. They need to share a common interest, not just have a user name. Keep rockin it Seb.
